Third front unlikely in Uttaranchal

The rebel Samajwadi Party MLA, Mr Munna Singh Chauhan, known as the “ambitious politician” of the hills in Uttaranchal, seems to be on a sticky wicket. Although he has announced to form a separate political party, yet his dream of forming a third front in the state may not come true in the near future.

Most political parties, including the BSP, the CPI, the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal, the Uttarakhand Jan Vikas Party and the Mahila Manch have not yet made up their mind to be a part of the third front in the state. Mr Chauhan held two rounds of talks with leaders of these parties last month. They were unable to reach a consensus on certain issues. [more]
