Tehri is empty now, Bahuguna leaves

OLD TEHRI (UTTARANCHAL), JUL 31 (PTI)

Most of the people, including environmentalist Sunderlal Bahuguna, have been evacuated from this marooned town raising hope for an early settlement of the vexed rehabilitation process as well as the commissioning of the first phase of the 2400 MW Tehri project.

A bitter opponent of Tehri dam, Bahuguna, who had refused to leave the 189-year-old town, finally agreed to the request of Congress party general secretaries Kishor Upadhyay and Dhirendra Pratap, who are here to take stock of the situation arising out of the rise in water-level of Bhagirathi river.
