DEHRA DUN, AUG. 9. Uttaranchal boasts of being a hi-tech State and spends crores of rupees on disaster management and mitigation works. A good portion of this fund has gone into purchasing video conferencing equipment or training trips abroad by top bureaucrats.
It purchased a helicopter worth Rs 26 crores recently. The Chief Minister, however, had to hire a chopper to visit the Tehri Dam disaster site a few days ago as the government chopper parked in the police lines could not fly — someone had broken it’s windowpane.
