Central Chronicle, August 13, 2004

DEHRA DUN: The Uttarakhand Sanyukt Sangharsh Morcha has decided to gherao the Uttaranchal Vidhan Sabha on Thursday to press its demand for establishment of the State’s permanent Capital at Gairsen in Chamoli district. The Uttarakhand Kranti Dal along with the Communist Party of India and Communist Party of India (Marxist) also announced their decision to gherao the Chief Minister’s residence on Saturday. Addressing media persons, the Morcha president, Kamla Pant, said the government’s total indifference to the sentiments of the people and failure to save the life of the activist, Baba Mohan Uttarakhandi, had underlined the urgent need for all social action groups that crusaded for the creation of Uttaranchal to unite and work for a second revolution through which power could come to real Uttarakhandis.

Anuradha Semwal, an activist from Uttarkashi, felt that the Uttarakhand activists should try to mould the public opinion in their favour so that the big parties like the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party were ousted from the State’s politics. [more]
