Central Chronicle: Tension brewing over Capital issue

DEHRA DUN: Tension is brewing among Uttarakhand activists all over the State following forcible shifting of Dhuma Devi from the troubled town of Gairsen to a hospital on the seventh day of her indefinite fast seeking an early establishment of the Capital of the State there, police misbehaviour with the women activists and injuries to several of them during a lathicharge yesterday.

Kamla Pant, convenor of the Uttarakhand Mahila Manch (UMM) spearheading the Gairsen movement, and Puja Mehra have been arrested. They are reported to have started an indefinite fast in police custody. They have demanded dismissal of the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police of Chamoli for having led the “inhuman attack” on non-violent satyagrahis. [more]
