That the people of Uttarakhand now want from the Govt., a final commitment for permanent capital at Gairsain. Uttarakhand Mahila Manch (UMM) and Uttarakhand Sangarsh Morcha (USM) have intensified the statewide struggle. Their key demands – declare Gairsain as permanent capital, change the name and punish the culprits of Mujaffarnagar KAND at the earliest.
Two women activists, Uma Bhatt and Dhooma Devi Sah are sitting on fast unto death at Gairsain since Oct, 02, 2004. When I called up Gairsain this morning and spoke to Mrs. Kamla Pant of UMM, on day 4, both the AMARAN ANSHANKARIs were looking strong and determined to sit for the last timeon such extreme step and achieve what they aspire out of the decade long struggle for a true Hill State, the people had demanded.
Rajendra Dhasmana, the state PUCL president informs that he is visiting Dehradun to meet the CM- NDT. He will ask the Govt. to announce immediately its decision on the demands of the ANDOLANKARIs. If no decision is taken by the Govt. then he will proceed to Gairsain to join the stir.
