Moved by the tsunami disaster, Governor of Uttaranchal, Sudershan Agarwal has decided to adopt 50 children from Tamil Nadu orphaned in the calamity. The Him Jyoti Foundation, a trust set up by the Governor to provide for the education of economically backward children, would adopt these children.
Mr Agarwal said the trust would take care of educational and other requirements of the children at a cost of Rs 1,000 per child for five years. Talks were on with the state authorities and Rotary clubs in Nagapattanam and Chennai to zero in on the needy children, he said. [more]
