DEHRA DUN: IT’S a downhill trek that Uttaranchal is refusing to join. Demonstrations in the state are protesting over the ongoing process to delimit assembly segments in Uttaranchal that would roll down political power from the hills to the plains.

Those protesting the proposed changes say they defeat the very purpose for which a separate hill state was made. They are demanding a freeze to delimitation, arguing that in a hill state geographical conditions should be considered, not just population figures. [more]
