Health services in many of the hill districts of Uttaranchal are in poor condition. With no medicines or proper treatment facilities available in public health centers despite government’s proclaimed policy initiatives, the situation is far from being satisfactory.
The local primary health centres that are meant to take care the needs of villagers from more than 10 villages in the State, is in bad shape because of official apathy. There is a perpetual shortage of medicines at these centres. In the absense of doctors in most of the dispensaries, the medicines are provided by the non-medical staff.
At times patients have to arrange for their medicine themselves. Even life-saving drugs are not available. [more]
