The Uttaranchal High Court order to close Tunnel No: 2 of the Tehri Dam on river Bhagirathi for 40 days has in turn submerged old Tehri in the waters of the river.
50-year-old J S Bist once had a home in old Tehri.
“It’s heart breaking to remember what it was like before, I find it difficult to recall as most things of the old town don’t exist anymore,” said Bist.
Others line up along the road to catch a glimpse of what remains.
“A lot of memories are attached with this town. I spent most of my life here and it is heart breaking to see Tehri drowning,” said Murlidhar Kala, resident, old Tehri.
