UNI (2006.1.20): Partial bandh in Dehra Dun evokes mixed response

Dehra Dun: The Dehradun bandh called by the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD) seeking unconditional release of their party workers arrested while demonstrating in the tehsil a few days back evoked mixed response today as most of the business houses in the city area remained closed but markets in the outskirts functioned normally.

Seventeen demonstrators were detained by the police and later released. The bandh was supported the Bar Association, CPM, CPI and Janwadi Mahila Samiti.

UKD leader Kashi Singh Airy said the strike, was observed not only for the release of the party workers, but also against corruption. He said the agitation would be carried out continuously till the UKD party workers are released.
