UNI (2006.1.7): Badal demands Uttaranchal CM's resignation

This is interesting, as Badal is known to owns enormous tracts of illegal land in the Terai. Wealthy Punjabi farmers have also largely evade land ceiling laws through illegal Benami transactions. Calling the Kashipur incident akin to 1984 riots is gross irresponsibility.

Amritsar, UNI:

The SAD president held the Uttaranchal CM responsible for the eviction of Punjabi farmers from their farms and homes in Kashipur sub-division of that state.

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president today demanded the resignation of Uttaranchal Chief Minister N D Tiwari, holding him responsible for the eviction of Punjabi farmers from their farms and homes in Kashipur sub-division of that state.

Addressing a public meeting at Majitha near here, he held the Uttaranchal government and the Congress responsible for what he described as ”large scale atrocities on the Punjabi farmers who had laboured to make the Terai region a prosperious region”. He likened the Kashipur incident to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
