Organisations plan siege to CM’s residence

Several public welfare organisations will lay a siege to the Uttarakhand Chief Minister’s residence on March 23 in protest against usurping of the rights of people over land and water by hydro-project companies. These organisations have got a fillip by the recent Nainital High Court judgment over the Falenda Hydro Power Project issue in Tehri Garhwal in which the court has objected to an increase in the project’s capacity from 11 MW to 22.5 MW.

Addressing a press conference, Kamla Pant, convener of the Uttarakhand Mahila Manch, said the Nainital High Court verdict on the Falenda issue had given strength to the organisations that had been protesting for a long time against the irregularities committed by the hydro-power projects in the state.
