DEHRA DUN, DHNS: Top leaders of the Uttarakhand Mahila Manch (UMM) were on Thursday, taken into custody in the State Assembly, upon raising slogans to make Gairsain the permanent capital of the hill state.
As soon as the slogan shouting began in the visitors’ gallery, alert marshals took Kamala Pant, President of UMM, a regional party, along with Satish Lakhera, an activist of the party, into custody.
Slogans like, “Gairsain ko rajdhani banao (make Gairsain the capital)” rent the air as Ms Pant and Mr Lakhera were being escorted out of the visitors’ gallery.
Ms Pant later said that UMM would continue the agitation till Gairsain became the permanent capital of Uttaranchal. [more]
