The first Indian woman to climb the Nanda Devi peak, Harshwanti Bisht, celebrates Diwali by cleaning up the garbage left behind by the many pilgrimages near the Gangotri Gaumukh glacier in Uttaranchal.
Along with that she is responsible for the first successful replantation of the birch or the bhoj tree, in the Indian Himalayas. The bark of this very tree was once used to write most traditional manuscripts. [more]
