DEHRADUN, 27 Jan: The CPI released its manifesto for the state assembly elections, here, today. The party claimed that its main aim was to establish a secular government in the state and prevent BJP from coming to power. Shameem Faizee, National Secretary of the party, appealed to all the parties apart from the BJP and the Congress to extend support in the upcoming election. He further said that the objective was to bring to light the poor performance of the state government. The CPI leader claimed that the party would stop the privatisation of education, generate employment, focus on farmers and adopt other people friendly polices. He proclaimed that Left parties at the Centre had always pressurised the government to take people oriented decisions. He added that the development of the state should be done taking into account its geography and the condition of the hills. He also opposed the acquisition of land for construction of dams without offering proper rehabilitation. On the occasion, he announced that Kamalaram Nautiyal would contest the election from Gangotri. The names of the party’s three other candidates from Kedarnath, Nandprayag and Pantnagar have already been declared. He also revealed that talks were underway with the UKD and CPI (M) on joining hands. He also appealed to the CPI (M) not to declare its candidates on the CPI’s seats. Also present on the occasion was Samar Bhandari, State Secretary of the party.
